秋雨叹三首 (三) Sighs of Autumn Rain (3)

杜甫 Du Fu

In Chang'an, who notices the cloth-gowned scholar?
fǎn suǒ héng mén shǒu huán dǔ
Locked behind his gate and guarding his walls.
lǎo fū bù chū zhǎng péng hāo
The old man doesn't go out, the weeds grow tall,
zhì zi wú yōu zǒu fēng yǔ
Children blithely rush through wind and rain.
yǔ shēng sōu sōu cuī zǎo hán
湿
The rustling rain hastens the early cold,
hú yàn chì shī gāo fēi nán
And geese with wet wings find high flying hard.
qiū lái wèi céng jiàn bái rì
This autumn we've had no glimpse of the white sun,
ní wū hòu tǔ hé shí gàn
When will the mud and dirt become dry earth?
