登岳阳楼 On Yueyang Tower

杜甫 Du Fu

Of old I heard of the waters of Dongting lake,
xī wén dòng tíng shuǐ
Now I've climbed to the top of Yueyang tower.
jīn shàng yuè yáng lóu
Here Wu and Chu are split to east and south,
wú chǔ dōng nán chè
Here heaven and earth are floating day and night.
gān kūn rì yè fú
From family and friends comes not a single word,
qīn péng wú yī zì
Old and sick, I have one solitary boat.
lǎo bìng yǒu gū zhōu
War horses are riding north of the mountain pass,
róng mǎ guān shān běi
I lean on the railing as tears flow down.
píng xuān tì sì liú
