關山月 The Moon at the Fortified Pass

李白 Li Bai

The bright moon lifts from the Mountain of Heaven
míng yuè chū tiān shān ,
In an infinite haze of cloud and sea,
cāng máng yún hǎi jiān ;
And the wind, that has come a thousand miles,
zhǎng fēng jǐ wàn lǐ ,
Beats at the Jade Pass battlements....
chuī dù yù mén guān 。
China marches its men down Baideng Road
hàn xià bái dēng dào ,
While Tartar troops peer across blue waters of the bay....
hú kuī qīng hǎi wān 。
And since not one battle famous in history
yóu lái zhēng zhàn de ,
Sent all its fighters back again,
bù jiàn yǒu rén hái 。
The soldiers turn round, looking toward the border,
shù kè wàng biān sè ,
And think of home, with wistful eyes,
sī guī duō kǔ yán ;
And of those tonight in the upper chambers
gāo lóu dāng cǐ yè ,
Who toss and sigh and cannot rest.
tàn xī wèi yīng xián 。
