北 风 捲 地 白 草 折 ，
The north wind rolls the white grasses and breaks them;
běi fēng juǎn de bái cǎo zhé ，
胡 天 八 月 即 飞 雪 ；
And the Eighth-month snow across the Tartar sky
hú tiān bā yuè jí fēi xuě ；
忽 如 一 夜 春 风 来 ，
Is like a spring gale, come up in the night,
hū rú yī yè chūn fēng lái ，
千 树 万 树 梨 花 开 。
Blowing open the petals of ten thousand peartrees.
qiān shù wàn shù lí huā kāi 。
散 入 珠 帘 湿 罗 幕 ，
It enters the pearl blinds, it wets the silk curtains;
sàn rù zhū lián shī luó mù ，
狐 裘 不 煖 锦 衾 薄 。
A fur coat feels cold, a cotton mat flimsy;
hú qiú bù nuǎn jǐn qīn báo 。
将 军 角 弓 不 得 控 ，
Bows become rigid, can hardly be drawn
jiāng jūn jiǎo gōng bù dé kòng ，
都 护 铁 衣 冷 犹 着 。
And the metal of armour congeals on the men;
dōu hù tiě yī lěng yóu zhe 。
瀚 海 阑 干 百 丈 冰 ，
The sand-sea deepens with fathomless ice,
hàn hǎi lán gàn bǎi zhàng bīng ，
愁 云 黪 淡 万 里 凝 。
And darkness masses its endless clouds;
chóu yún cǎn dàn wàn lǐ níng 。
中 军 置 酒 饮 归 客 ，
But we drink to our guest bound home from camp,
zhōng jūn zhì jiǔ yǐn guī kè ，
胡 琴 琵 琶 与 羌 笛 。
And play him barbarian lutes, guitars, harps;
hú qín pí pá yǔ qiāng dí 。
纷 纷 暮 雪 下 辕 门 ，
Till at dusk, when the drifts are crushing our tents
fēn fēn mù xuě xià yuán mén ，
风 掣 红 旗 冻 不 翻 。
And our frozen red flags cannot flutter in the wind,
fēng chè hóng qí dòng bù fān 。
轮 台 东 门 送 君 去 ，
We watch him through Wheel-Tower Gate going eastward.
lún tái dōng mén sòng jūn qù ，
去 时 雪 满 天 山 路 ；
Into the snow-mounds of Heaven-Peak Road....
qù shí xuě mǎn tiān shān lù ；
山 迴 路 转 不 见 君 ，
And then he disappears at the turn of the pass,
shān huí lù zhuǎn bù jiàn jūn ，
雪 上 空 留 马 行 处 。
Leaving behind him only hoof-prints.
xuě shàng kōng liú mǎ xíng chù 。
