寄韓諫議 A Letter to Censor Han

杜甫 Du Fu

I am sad. My thoughts are in Youzhou.
jīn wǒ bù lè sī yuè yáng ,
I would hurry there-but I am sick in bed.
shēn yù fèn fēi bìng zài chuáng 。
...Beauty would be facing me across the autumn waters.
měi rén juān juān gé qiū shuǐ ,
Oh, to wash my feet in Lake Dongting and see at its eight corners
zhuó zú dòng tíng wàng bā huāng 。
鸿
Wildgeese flying high, sun and moon both white,
hóng fēi míng míng rì yuè bái ,
Green maples changing to red in the frosty sky,
qīng fēng yè chì tiān yǔ shuāng 。
Angels bound for the Capital of Heaven, near the North Star,
yù jīng qún dì jí běi dòu ,
Riding, some of them phrenixes, and others unicorns,
huò qí qí lín yì fèng huáng 。
With banners of hibiscus and with melodies of mist,
fú róng jīng qí yān wù luò ,
Their shadows dancing upside-down in the southern rivers,
yǐng dòng dào jǐng yáo xiāo xiāng 。
Till the Queen of the Stars, drowsy with her nectar,
xīng gōng zhī jūn zuì qióng jiāng ,
Would forget the winged men on either side of her!
yǔ rén xī shǎo bù zài páng 。
...From the Wizard of the Red Pine this word has come for me:
shì wén zuó zhě chì sōng zi ,
That after his earlier follower he has now a new disciple
kǒng shì hàn dài hán zhāng liáng ;
Who, formerly at the capital as Emperor Liu's adviser,
xī suí liú shì dìng zhǎng ān ,
In spite of great successes, never could be happy.
wéi wò wèi gǎi shén cǎn shāng 。
...What are a country's rise and fall?
guó jiā chéng bài wú qǐ gǎn ?
Can flesh-pots be as fragrant as mountain fruit?....
sè nán xīng fǔ cān fēng xiāng 。
I grieve that he is lost far away in the south.
zhōu nán liú zhì gǔ suǒ xī ,
寿
May the star of long life accord him its blessing!
nán jí lǎo rén yīng shòu chāng 。
...O purity, to seize you from beyond the autumn waters
měi rén hú wèi gé qiū shuǐ ?
And to place you as an offering in the Court of Imperial Jade.
yān dé zhì zhī gòng yù táng 。
