送梓州李使君 A Message to Commissioner Li at Zizhou

王維 Wang Wei

From ten thousand valleys the trees touch heaven;
wàn hè shù cān tiān ,
On a thousand peaks cuckoos are calling;
qiān shān xiǎng dù juān 。
And, after a night of mountain rain,
shān zhōng yī yè yǔ ,
From each summit come hundreds of silken cascades.
shù miǎo bǎi zhòng quán 。
...If girls are asked in tribute the fibre they weave,
hàn nǚ shū tóng bù ,
Or farmers quarrel over taro fields,
bā rén sòng yù tián 。
Preside as wisely as Wenweng did....
wén wēng fān jiào shòu ,
Is fame to be only for the ancients?
bù gǎn yǐ xiān xián 。
