宿桐廬江寄廣陵舊遊 From a Mooring on the Tonglu to a Friend in Yangzhou

孟浩然 Meng Haoran

With monkeys whimpering on the shadowy mountain,
shān míng tīng yuán chóu ,
And the river rushing through the night,
cāng jiāng jí yè liú 。
And a wind in the leaves along both banks,
fēng míng liǎng àn yè ,
And the moon athwart my solitary sail,
yuè zhào yī gū zhōu 。
I, a stranger in this inland district,
jiàn dé fēi wú tǔ ,
Homesick for my Yangzhou friends,
wéi yáng yì jiù yóu 。
Send eastward two long streams of tears
hái jiāng liǎng xíng lèi ,
西
To find the nearest touch of the sea.
yáo jì hǎi xī tóu 。
