登金陵鳳凰台 On Climbing in Nanjing to the Terrace of Phoenixes

李白 Li Bai

Phoenixes that played here once, so that the place was named for them,
fèng huáng tái shàng fèng huáng yóu ,
Have abandoned it now to this desolate river;
fèng qù tái kōng jiāng zì liú 。
The paths of Wu Palace are crooked with weeds;
wú gōng huā cǎo mái yōu jìng ,
The garments of Qin are ancient dust.
jìn dài yī guān chéng gǔ qiū 。
...Like this green horizon halving the Three Peaks,
sān tái bàn luò qīng shān wài ,
Like this Island of White Egrets dividing the river,
èr shuǐ zhōng fēn bái lù zhōu 。
A cloud has arisen between the Light of Heaven and me,
zǒng wèi fú yún néng bì rì ,
使
To hide his city from my melancholy heart.
zhǎng ān bù jiàn shǐ rén chóu 。
