感遇其二 Orchid and Orange I

張九齡 Zhang Jiuling

Tender orchid-leaves in spring
lán yè chūn wēi ruí ,
And cinnamon- blossoms bright in autumn
guì huá qiū jiǎo jié ;
Are as self- contained as life is,
xīn xīn cǐ shēng yì ,
Which conforms them to the seasons.
zì ěr wèi jiā jié 。
Yet why will you think that a forest-hermit,
shuí zhī lín qī zhě ?
Allured by sweet winds and contented with beauty,
wén fēng zuò xiāng yuè ,
Would no more ask to-be transplanted
cǎo mù yǒu běn xīn ,
THan Would any other natural flower?
hé qiú měi rén zhé ?
